Refinishing costs a fraction of replacement and can completely change a room. We sand to bare wood, repair damaged boards, and finish with stains and topcoats chosen for how your family actually lives — pets, boots, snow melt and all. Light foot traffic is typically fine within 24 hours of the final coat, with furniture back in 2–4 days depending on the finish. We give you exact timing for the product we use.
Usually, yes. Deep damage is sanded out or the affected boards are replaced before finishing. In the rare case a floor is too far gone, we’ll tell you before any work starts.
A solid hardwood floor can typically be refinished several times over its life — often 4 to 6 — so a refinish now still leaves plenty of floor for the future.
Most families stay home. We seal off work areas and schedule coats so you always have a path through the house.
Modern sanders with vacuum collection capture most of the dust, and we seal off the work area, but no sanding job is completely dust-free. Plan to wipe down nearby surfaces afterward.
In most cases, yes. Paint, carpet pad residue and staples add prep time but rarely prevent a refinish. We’ll check a corner during the estimate.

Oil-modified polyurethane warms up over time to a honey/amber tone that many older Syracuse homes were built with. It has a longer dry time and stronger odor during application.
Water-based polyurethane dries clear and stays clear, which keeps light woods and grays looking true. It dries fast with far less odor, so you’re back on the floor sooner.
Penetrating oils and hardwax oils give a low-sheen, natural look and can be spot-repaired, but need more regular maintenance.
Stain: red oak takes stain readily; maple and birch can blotch in dark colors unless the floor is prepped for it. We’ll put sample patches right on your floor so you choose the color in your own light, not from a photo.
Sheen: matte and satin hide scratches and dust far better than semi-gloss and gloss, which is why most families pick them.

A typical sand-and-finish of a few connected rooms runs two to four days of work. With water-based finishes, light sock-foot traffic is usually fine within about a day, furniture can go back after a few days, and rugs should wait roughly two weeks while the finish fully cures.
