Luxury vinyl plank has earned its place in Central New York: it’s waterproof, warm underfoot, and tough enough for mudrooms and basements where hardwood shouldn’t go. We carry premium lines like COREtec in our Marcellus showroom — floors with realistic wood visuals and cores that won’t swell when the snow comes in on your boots.
Quality LVP is waterproof from the top down — spills, pet accidents and snow melt won’t hurt it. We’ll still check your subfloor for moisture issues, because waterproof flooring doesn’t fix a wet basement.
Installed LVP typically costs meaningfully less than hardwood. If you’re torn, come compare both side by side in the showroom — sometimes the answer is hardwood upstairs, LVP down.

Most LVP failures we’re called to fix — planks that separate, click joints that pop, floors that feel hollow — trace back to the subfloor, not the product. Manufacturers typically require the floor to be flat within about 3/16″ over 10 feet. Before installing, we check for high and low spots, grind or patch as needed, fasten down squeaky subfloor, and test concrete for moisture in basements. It’s the least glamorous part of the job and the part that decides whether your floor lasts.
We’ll tell you when vinyl isn’t the right answer: rooms with heavy, sustained direct sun (some products can expand or fade), four-season porches with no climate control, and homes where you want a floor that can be sanded and renewed decades from now. In those cases we’ll show you hardwood or laminate alternatives.
As a very rough national reference, quality LVP often lands somewhere in the mid single digits to around ten dollars per square foot installed. Your written estimate spells out the specifics.
Sweep or vacuum regularly and damp-mop with a cleaner made for vinyl. Use felt pads under furniture and avoid rubber-backed mats, which can discolor some vinyl. Don’t drag appliances across the floor — lift or use a sheet of plywood.
