Stairs are the hardest-working, most-seen woodwork in your home — and the most commonly botched. We build and finish treads, risers and nosings to match your floors exactly, and take on the custom work big-box crews won’t touch: borders and inlays, floor vents, repairs to historic floors, and thresholds that actually line up.
Usually, yes. Between species matching, custom staining and toning finishes, we can get repairs and new treads remarkably close — we’ll show you a sample on real wood before committing.
The most popular upgrade we do: remove carpet, install solid hardwood treads and painted risers. It transforms an entryway in a couple of days.
Yes. Water-damaged boards, pet stains, squeaks and gaps — no job is too small to do right.
Absolutely. Bring a photo and, if possible, a spare board or close-up of the grain, and we’ll match species and finish.
A matte or satin finish is much less slippery than gloss. Many families also add a runner, which protects the treads and softens the sound.
If the treads are solid wood (not particleboard under carpet) and not badly damaged, refinishing is usually the most economical path. We’ll pull back the carpet at one step during the estimate to check.
A typical straight staircase is often one to three days, depending on whether treads are replaced and how many finish coats are needed. You’ll need an alternate route or careful scheduling while finish dries.

Stairs are priced per step rather than per square foot. Cost depends on whether treads are refinished or replaced, the species, open vs. closed stringers, how many risers are painted vs. stained, balusters and handrails that need to be worked around, and landings. We’ll quote every step in writing.
