Usually yes — engineered hardwood is far more stable over radiant systems. We carry lines rated for it and install to their spec so warranties hold.
All wood changes color with light exposure — cherry darkens, many oaks amber or lighten. UV-resistant finishes, window film and shades slow it down. Rotating rugs keeps the change even.
Skaneateles homes ask more of a floor than most. Lake houses along East and West Lake Road get strong reflected sunlight through big windows, which can fade finishes and change wood tones over time. Seasonal homes that sit closed through the winter can go through big swings in humidity, and every wood floor responds to that. We match the floor to the house. For sun-drenched lake rooms, that can mean species and finishes that age gracefully in light, UV-resistant finishes, or engineered hardwood that stays flatter through humidity swings. For village homes, it usually means careful refinishing, board-matching and period-appropriate stain colors.
If your Skaneateles home sits empty for part of the year, keep the heat and humidity controlled rather than shutting the house down completely — wood floors are happiest between about 35% and 55% relative humidity. Draw shades on the sunniest windows while you’re away, keep entry mats in place, and rotate rugs occasionally so the floor under them ages at the same rate as the rest of the room.
