Yes. Small repairs are part of being the local shop — squeaks, gaps, water-damaged boards, all of it.
Often, yes. Old softwood planks need a gentler approach than oak — different sanding sequence, careful attention to cut nails and uneven boards — but many come back beautifully. We’ll look at them in person first.
Absolutely. Take them home, look at them in morning and evening light, and bring them back when you’ve decided.
Marcellus is our home. The shop has been on Main Street in the village since 1992, and our crews have worked in a good share of the houses between Nine Mile Creek and the ridge. Village homes near Main and North Streets tend to have original strip oak or pine under later coverings. Farmhouses on the surrounding hills often have wide softwood plank floors that have been painted, patched and walked on for well over a century — floors that deserve a careful hand instead of a quick sand-and-go.
Newer homes on the outskirts of the village and out toward Marietta and Otisco Lake are more likely to need new flooring altogether: hardwood in the main living areas, LVP in the basement and mudroom, and stair work to tie it all together.
Being local means you can stop in on your way to the post office, borrow samples overnight, and bring your spouse back on Friday to look again. It means the person who measures your floor is the person you’ll see at the store next month. And it means we care about doing it right, because our reputation in Marcellus travels by word of mouth — the way it has for over thirty years.
